Hi there, so you have a question regarding if you think you have high blood pressure. I am not sure how old you are, but you did say you have a family history of blood pressure, so I am thinking with knowing that, it does put you a ‘little’ higher risk for high blood pressure
Having a flushed face, and dizziness are a few signs, and not to mentioning the swelling in your hands could be another indicator. But do you ever get headaches, nose bleeds, blurriness? How long does the dizziness and ‘redness’ in your face last, and the swelling in your hands (veiny)?
Does seem to me that you are aware of what to look for, but to be honest the only way to know if is high blood pressure’ is to have your blood pressure checked at the doctors. There they will check your blood pressure while you are laying down, standing, etc, etc. and probably do a few minor test. Even though these do look like classic signs and symtpoms of high blood pressure, if you can, go have it checked out.
P.S. oh and if you can, does anyone in your family have a ‘automatic or manual’ b/p machine you can borrow to check your b/o yourself till you get to the doctor? Just a thought

Hi Had3s,
It’s very hard to answer your question without more information about you, your age, and your lifestyle – but I’ll try.
High blood pressure is all about risk factors, and it rarely shows itself as visible symptoms. That’s why it is frequently known as the ‘silent killer’.
So what are the risk factors ?
Drinking too much alcohol
Being overweight or obese
Eating too much salt
Not doing enough exercise
Not eating enough fruit and vegetables
excessive anxiety
Certain types of medications
Some of your symptoms such as feeling faint actually sound like too low blood pressure, which is known as ‘hypotension’.
First you need to get some facts – an accurate measure of your actual blood pressure over several days.
Your doctor is the best way to tell you if your blood pressure is too high, but you can test yourself using a home blood pressure monitor which is a good sanity check.
If you do find you are suffering from high blood pressure there are some ways in which you can help to lower your blood pressure :-
Do more physical activity
Keep to a healthy weight
Cut down on your salt intake
Cut down on alcohol
Eat more fruit and vegetables
learn to control your anxiety and stress levels
Hope this helps.
Best wishes,
Malcolm.
