One traditional herbal remedy that’s been proven by science is eating celery. It apparently has a blood pressure lowering effect that isn’t clearly understood.

1. Shake the salt habit even though there is not conclusive evidence of the link between sodium and high blood pressure. Studies are still ongoing, believe it or not.
2. Cut down on alcohol.
3. Consume more potassium and calcium (such as dairy) in your diet.
4. Increase your exercise level but avoid isometrics like weight-lifting.
5. Try aerobic exercise instead, such as walking a quarter of a mile briskly to start. Swimming and bike riding are also good.
6. Think vegetarian when choosing your foods.
7. Take your own blood pressure readings at home. This way you track your own condition–it can help make you more aware of how diet, exercise, and medication are affecting your BP. It may also help you overcome the “white coat” reaction many people experience. The minute they walk in a doctor’s office, they tense up and their pressure rises dramatically.
8. Check your spouse’s pressure, too. Surprisingly, the longer two people are married, the more similar their BP becomes. This is largely due to the same environmental factors, such as diet and stress within the household, but also a break-down in communication and overt signs of loving affection.
9. Be a happy person. That’s easier said then done.
10. Try talking less. Yes, even deaf people who sign are known to have elevated BP upon “talking”.

There are all sorts of things you can do. For starters, avoid meat and dairy. Eat lots of raw or lightly cooked vegetables and whole grains. Salads with tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil are particularly good for you. Exercise as much as you can. It doesn’t have to be a huge workout, just walking for 20 minutes a day is fine. It just has to be regular. Keep your weight down. Take pycnogenol and policosanol (over the counter herbal supplements) They will help your circulation. Here are a few helpful links:

high blood pressure
It’s possible. It may be difficult to do and require some dedication on your part, but carefully watching the foods you eat, regular exercise and weight loss (if applicable) is a good start. Aside from that, there are other factors involved. Familial Hypertension is inherited and very difficult to manage w/ out pharmacological intervention (Joe Montana comes to mind). May sound funny, but there is good evidence to show that stress reduction and yoga greatly contriubte to lowering hypertension. You are probably taking and ACE or ARB medication. Besides the inconvenience of remembering to take them, these are relatively safe medications that save lives. Heart Disease is the number one killer in the U.S. and part of the reason why is because people don’t feel sick when they have hypertension. So they stop taking their meds and the condition grows and gets worse to the point where they develoop Congestive Heart Failure/Heart Attach/Stroke or Cardia Remodeling. I suggest talking to your doctor before stop taking the meds.

There is no real natural alternative way for treating high blood pressure.A person can pop natural herbs such as garlic pills, fish oil pills etc. all day several times a day to help the syptoms and people believe they have brought it down, but little do they know that having high blood perssure does that. It goes up and down through out the day. It never stablizes by itself. That is why it is important to talk to a doctor who specializes in high blood pressure. It is good to use natural herbs with your meds to help keep it stable but do not take yourself off your meds the doctor put you on, because hypertension is dangerous and most of the time is hereditary. Meaning someone in my your family’s history has it and you have that gene. I have hypertension., and I was once like you taking a lot of medications, but I got tired of all the medications. Some of the meds would just make things worser, until a lady at work told me I need to go to a doctor that specialize in hyertension only and I took her advice. My husband and I look up a specialist in a town who treat patients like us. And I Thank God for Dr. Hall. I went to him and explain that I have went through the last year with my hypertension and give him all my medications. He then took his time and explain all of the reasons for everything that I had experienced and things that I should not have, but too make it short . He took me off of all five medication and start me on one small pill called Diovan HCT than it was a low dose. One pill a day a size of a m&m. He give me some samples , a prescription, and a book on how to manage high blood pressure. Since when I have been feeling great and doing well. To know more information on this drug go to:

I once took a fitness class where we had our blood pressure measured before and after, and it included everyone doing 17 hours of exercise. I also started taking a garlic supplement on a daily basis at the same time. When I had my blood pressure measured again at the end of the class, mine had dropped much more drastically than everyone else’s. So if I ever need to lower it again I will definitely go with the garlic!

Yes!…the natural alternative is natural, raw foods, and daily exercise. cooking destroys food enzymes and cooked food causes disease. the only animals that suffer from the same diseases humans do are those animals that are domesticated and are fed processed foods.
the surgeon general in the 80′s released a report that was over 40 years in the making on health and nutrition…and the report revealed that 8 of the top 10 leading causes of death are directly related to what we eat.

Garlic….(I like this one)
Hawthorn… (But my info says not to take this one if currently on high blood pressure medicine, you dont want TWO things lowering it at once) (I love hawthorn)
aconite
american hellebore
bee pollen
cinnamon
coenzyme Q10 (I’ve tried thisa one and like it)
cucumber
dandelion (I like this one)
dong quai
gotu kola
kelp
misletoe
parsley
peach
rauwolfia
yerba mate
[Most of these I have not tried, see below]
(The above list came from “The Complete Guide To Herbal Medicines” by Charles Fetrow (Pharmacist) and by Juan R. Aliva (Pharacist)… I LOVE this book, and really reccomend it to you BEFORE you try any of the above list because CERTAIN HERBS shouldn’t be taken due to any SPECIFIC PRE-EXISTING medical conditions you have, OR shouldn’t be taken due to some prescription medicines you may already be on. It even list possible allergic reactions to watch out for). It covers over 300 herbs and TONS of symptoms and ailments. The best part? It only cost about EIGHT bucks! check for it on amazon, ebay, or a local book store. You really need to check three-four seperate sources about the safety of ANY herbal remedy you are wanting to take. Some books plainly dont list safety but are only meant for a general overview, so keep that in mind.

Garlic and hawthorn are the two I have taken. To save money and not have to buy garlic pills, I just went in and read the reccomended dosage… I wrote it down… Then, I went home and took apart the gel cap I had for a different type of herbal pill. I threw the contents away. I then used the EMPTY capsule and filled it up with garlic… I did this enough times to make enough for the day, filling the capsule up and then dumping it into a clean baby food jar. Then, throughout the day, based on the diections for garlic, I divided up what was on my jar, added to my food, and swallowed it really fast…. I did it this way cause garlic powder is much cheaper to buy at the store. I love it so much, I am now growing my own garlic.

hope this helps
