I’m a 24 year old girl who may have high blood pressure. Is that rare or uncommon?

I went to the doctor (not primary doctor) and they checked my blood pressure and it was high. They said it may be a moment thing because I was nervous so I’m seeing my primary doctor in a few weeks for a full check up. I’m not overweight and have not had any major health issues that I know of as of yet. So I’m very puzzle and nervous because I think I’m too young to be have high blood pressure.

high blood pressure
It’s not THAT Uncommon…-but it’s ALSO not too Good! However, being Nervous or Stressed out- CAN artificially elevate it, so see what the Doctor “says” when you go to get your Check Up… Odds ARE, you’ll be OK.

I’m 24 with hbp. It’s always higher when I stress or at the docs office. When I check it at home it’s almost normal. It’s called whitecoating. It’s better to know now than to find out the hard way. They don’t call it the silent killer for no reason. Get it checked out asap.

high blood pressure
Age is not the determinant. You could have high blood pressure. It can come from stress. Often, when in a doctor’s office, people feel stressed, and so they register high blood pressure. Try to relax, and not worry about it. Your regular doctor, who knows your whole health history, will be able to figure out if it’s really high blood pressure developing in your life, or if it was just a momentary stress from being in the doctor’s office. I saw someone already mentioned the “white coat” syndrome. People actually have been known to have temporarily high blood pressure just from being around medical people, who wear white coats. Relax, and think soothing thoughts when you go back to the doctor and trust he’ll figure out what’s going on.
