Has anyone been induced because of high blood pressure?
Angel asked:
I saw my doctor yesterday and he asked me back tomorrow b/c my blood pressure is high and he said if it remains so he wants to discuss induction. Does this mean if it’s still high he’ll induce me tomorrow (I’m due in 2 days anyway)? I’m thrilled about the idea of finally having my baby, but I don’t really know what to expect tomorrow and I hate not knowing, ya know?

its the safest option for you and bub if your pressure is too high, as with labour and birth an induction is different for everyone, but generally once given the drug contraction should come on fast and strong, there is no build up to it like with normal labour.
you will be fine just focus on meeting your little one.
Good Luck

Not because of blood pressure, but I may be induced next Wednesday, because my baby is quite large. I’ll be 38 weeks tomorrow and they estimate my daughter is already 8lbs. 11oz. I was kind of induced with my first… They gave me pitocin to help me along, because I was contracting regularly, but not dialating… It was not bad I labored for 12 hours total and pushed her out in about 20 minutes. I hoping this one goes as smoothly. Good luck to you!

That’s what happened with the Duggar’s 19th child… Its a condition called pre-eclampsia and its basically dangerously high blood pressure that only happens during pregnancy. The only way to cure it is to terminate the pregnancy, whether it is inducing labor or if it’s too early, an abortion. If he induces you its purely because your dr wants to keep you safe. It’s hard to say if he will actually induce you tomorrow… if your blood pressure is really high then they might keep you in the hospital for a while and monitor it, and if it stays that high for a while then there is a good chance for induction. At least your baby is fully cooked so either way you will see him/her soon enough! Good luck!

At 32 weeks my blood pressure suddenly went up. We were able to manage it by reducing my work hours and putting my feet up whenever I could, etc. At 37 weeks, it just shot up even more. At that point they were going to have to either bring me in every day for non-stress tests on the baby, or induce me. My midwife told me she would discuss this with the doctors that day, and she would call me back and let me know what the plan was. I figured they would induce me rather than bring me in every day for tests, and I was right. I just had no idea that it would be that very same day. When my midwife called me later that day, she told me to be there within the hour!
They started me on a low dose of pitocin and increased it every 1/2 hour, but after 5 1/2 hours, nothing was really happening, so she broke my water. 3 1/2 hours later my daughter was born. I went from 4cm to 10cm in 50 minutes, and pushed her out in less than 25 minutes.
I didn’t have an epidural, and no one really liked that idea because they though the stress would make my blood pressure dangerously high. However, my blood pressure ended up being lower during labor than it was during my entire pregnancy. After I delivered, and the nurses came to do the routine blood pressure checks, they kept asking me if I’d always had low blood pressure. It was weird.
However, it did go back up some after that, but was back to normal by my 6 week check-up.
