Can high blood pressure affect your period?

baby girl due 10/25/09 asked:

I’ve had high blood pressure for about 2yrs now and am on medication. Lately my periods have been awful, nausea, vomitting, and very painful cramps. Could the two be linked??

Not really. The symptoms you are experiencing are probably just attributed to menstruation, unfortunately. Many people think that menstruation is actually BLEEDING, when it’s not. It’s the sloughing of the uterine lining, which is rich with small capillaries etc. Your blood pressure does not affect your menstruation.
