Can a pregnant person have preeclampsia without the high blood pressure?

giggles asked:

I went to the doctor yesterday and she told me that I was showing some symptoms of preeclampsia. I have bad swelling of my feet, my ankles, my hands and especially my face. Also, I have been experiencing blurry vision along with headaches. I just dont have high blood pressure(which is great!). Anyway she is making me take this 24 hour urine test to see if any protein shows up in my urine. Does anyone know if I can have preeclampsia without me having high blood pressure? YOUR HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! THNX : )

you are showing early signs of preeclampsia if there is protein in your urine then yeah I guess you can without the high blood pressure.

you can’t have preeclampsia without high blood pressure. The diagnostic criteria for preeclampsia is elevated blood pressure (140/90 or higher) and greater than 300mg of protein in your 24 hr urine.

If you have greater than 300 mg of protein in your urine without high blood pressure you dr will need to look for other causes such as kidney problems etc.
