Can a person with blood pressure usually lower than 120/70 have high blood pressure at times during the day?

health nut asked:

Is it unusual for blood pressure to shoot up to the low l40′s over the high 80′s to low 90′s. This is for a person over 60 and she is using a wrist device for measuring blood pressure.

That’s not unusual at all. It’s normal for blood pressure to vary over the course of a day. That’s why it’s recommended that to get a true reading, you should take three readings 15 minutes apart and average them.

I have heard that the wrist devices are not as accurate as the ones you use around the upper arm. this came from my grandpa’s heart doctor. Also, you should check blood pressure on the same arm all the time for accuracy as well as from the same sitting position. It is recommended that you sit with both feet on the floor flat, hands on knees, shoulders in line with hips and relaxed as well.

moods can have a lot to do with blood pressure.
