3 Months Pregnant with High Blood pressure, last pregnancy delivered early with severe preeclamysia?

kaytee1010 asked:

Where to begin? I had my son October 23,2007, He induced and born one month early due to severe preeclamysia. I found out I was pregnant again in February. I am due with this baby on November 3, which makes me about 3 months pregnant. I have been having really bad headaches, blurred vision, and high blood pressure readings. Sometimes as high as 147/121. My doctor was on vacation for 2 weeks and his nurse seemed to fluff me off as another worried pregnant person. My blood pressure jumps from high to low in sometimes an hours time. I have a doctors appt. Friday, and I want to know how you feel my doctor should react? Am I a high-risk pregnancy because of my history and current symptoms and how should this problem be handled? Thank you.

sounds high risk eat healthy get moderate exercise STAY AWAY FROM TOO MUCH SALT………….the nurse was very wrong and should have taken you seriously……..above all relax …stressing out will not help. The dr should be concerned and you should be monitored…..be positive everything will be that much better because you are aware and informed………good luck

I think you are very high risk and you should get into the clinic ASAP. The best thing for you would probably be to go on bed rest and lay flat on your back. (This is when your blood pressure will be the lowest). I would not exercise, as it will raise your blood pressure. Most importantly, you need to relax as much as possible. Call the clinic and demand to get in sooner or else go to the ER…. preeclampsia can lead to strokes and seizures, this is not something to wait around about.

Yes you are a high risk pregnancy. I had the same issues with #3 and I was on bed rest for 11 weeks and delivered him at 37 weeks. I was placed on procardia for my high blood pressure and am still on it nine months later. This is serious and is not anything that your doctor should be blowing off. Try to lay on your left side and relax. I know this is difficult with another little one at home but your high blood pressure could cause serious problems with your pregnancy. Avoid salt and caffeine.

Your situation sounds very similar to my two pregnancies. I developed high blood pressure around 30 weeks with my first daughter and ended up being induced at 37 weeks because my blood pressure was through the roof. My second pregnancy I developed high blood pressure again, but much earlier. I think around 15 weeks. I was put on blood pressure medications and had to try a few different ones before I found one that helped. I had to take that for the remainder of my pregnancy. But my blood pressure was still high for my entire pregnancy and I ended up delivering a few weeks early. Because of my prolonged high blood pressure the baby was small (4 lb 10 oz) but completely healthy and she’s now 2 1/2 years old.

If your nurse is blowing you off and there isn’t another doctor to see, go to the maternity ward at the hospital and ask them to check you. They will be happy to check you out and you will get better care.
