If you are 19 and need blood pressure meds you absolutly CANNOT just stop taking it and go through boot camp. That’s a really fast way to kill yourself.

Talk to your doctor. See what they say.

Who do you think you should ask? Someone with at least 10 years of schooling in medicine, or a crowd of people that you don’t know? Or someone who has years of experience in the practice of medicine, or the random stranger with a computer and a few minute spare time?

In other words – don’t ask us – ask your doctor. Maybe the exercise will help control your blood pressure. Maybe it’ll drive it sky high, and put you at increased risk of a stroke.

And maybe the Marines will detect your high blood pressure during the admissions physical exam, or the blood work will show the medication in your system. I suspect that lying to them right at the start of your military career is NOT the best way to advance. If you just gotta try, then ask your doctor, or call a recruiter anonymously, and ask him.

absolutely not. Do not stop that medication. High blood pressure untreated can cause alot of serious health problems, like a heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, and strokes, just to name a few. Untreated high b/p on top of the stress of boot camp is a recipe for disaster. Talk to your doctor about it, but I’m pretty sure this is a horrible idea.

definately not, never go off from BP meds unless your doctor tells you too

I would unless it is sky high. Mildly elevated blood pressure is not dangerous, at least not short term. The demanding physical exercise will lower your BP long before 12 weeks are up. Atenolol is a beta blocker. It blocks neurotransmitters to the heart that your body needs more blood. Does that sound like a good thing in high physical stress situations?
Why do you think they will deny entry? High blood pressure is a symptom, not a disease.
Try taking Mag Oxide starting a month before your physical. Test your BP twice a week as it will fall. When it does fall, cut your pills in half. When it stays low, or falls more, stop altogether.
Please do not hide medical information during a physical. The rules are there for your protection.
